DESCRIPTION:
EPW - Unsigned Swiss, unusual dead-beat center-seconds chronograph with stacked sweep-seconds-hands, 49mm, silver original HC with attractive engine turning and engraving detail, cuvette marked "Chronographe," button on band (located at 40 seconds) to engage chronograph function which is a stop/start of the lower hand, white enamel dial with timekeeping hour-minute chapter at upper portion, 60-second indication around perimeter, and a faux seconds-register at lower perimeter that consists only of seconds-register markings and a painted representation of a hand, KWKS (a key is included as pictured), unusual lever escapement with long counterpoised lever having pointed locking jewels engaging an escape wheel with crab's claw style teeth, gilt mvt, s#2811 within case. A very unusual complication, this watch features a pair of stacked dead-beating sweep-seconds hands at center that run continuously in tandem until the case button at 40 seconds is depressed, which functions to stop the lower sweep-hand which remains stationary for as long as the button is depressed while the upper hand continues to advance. When the button is released the lower hand advances immediately back into index with the upper hand.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, chronograph function in need of overhaul as lower hand consistently jumps ahead by one second immediately upon engagement and after approximately 8 seconds of chronograph engagement both hands will consistently stall and halt the watch which then needs a twist to restart, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, plates with few micro-fine scratches and scattered small haze spots, barrel with some ultra-fine scratch striations likely from a past wiping; dial with two hls at upper-left perimeter; excellent hands; case shows light wear, an attractive exterior patina, few small nicks, engine turning detail with some reduction at shoulders; bow pivots freely, push shows light wear; good glass crystal.
